Civil Engineering Services

We provide a wide range of civil engineering services.

Committed to providing civil engineering services

We provide pre- and post-planning civil engineering services to homeowners, architects, developers, and contractors. Our work spans from small-scale residential projects to large-scale commercial enterprises.

We provide a full range of civil engineering services, including drainage strategy, drainage design, and flood risk assessment.

Drainage Strategy Reports

We provide drainage strategy reports for commercial, residential, and domestic projects.

The reports determine the best way to disperse water without causing problems to the local area and residents.

All major developments in England are required to carry out a drainage strategy report.

Flood Risk Assessment Reports

A flood risk assessment includes the current risk level, how climate change may affect future risks, and mitigation plans. Every assessment is unique to the needs of each project.

They are submitted to the local authority for approval.

Surface Water Drainage Design

Proper surface water drainage design is crucial to ensure foul and surface water are managed correctly and to protect the health of residents and the local area.

Every project will require a different solution to water management, depending on the building, the surrounding area, and existing infrastructure.

Our engineers are dedicated to finding the correct solution for your property.

Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) Design

Our engineers have developed SuDS for a range of commercial developments and residential projects, in urban and rural areas.

Sustainable drainage systems require analysing long term social and environmental factors to manage rainfall and surface water.

Our Testimonials

Great service from Shaun, we needed a structural survey after having a RICS home buyers report. Shaun responded to my query immediately, and carried out the survey in a matter of days.

Highly recommended!

Andy Horn

We have used the Home engineers several times and always recommend them. A very professional service at a reasonable price. Daniel was very responsive and responded within a day and was able to book us in within a reasonable timeframe.

Susan Pybus

We were recommended Home Engineers by friends and they have been fantastic. Dan took the lead on helping us understand what was needed to make our vision a reality. We are now in full flow and excited for the renovations to get going. Thanks Dan

Nick Dell'anno

My architectural design practice has worked with Shaun and the team for the past 6 years. Their work is always first class with drawings and calculations delivered in a timely manner. I highly recommend their services.

Paul Bell

Cannot recommend THE Newcastle highly enough. Twice we have used Shaun and the team in the past year, both times have had a positive experience with them. After buying our house, we realised that there may be some structural issues. THE visited the site promptly and diagnosed the issue, explaining in clear and easy terms what we needed to do to correct this issue. We have subsequently used Shaun and the team again to produce the structural designs for the extension we are putting on the house.

FAQs

Do I need a civil engineer?
If you are carrying out a home extension, building a new property, or conducting renovations that involve structural changes, you will likely need a civil engineer. Works such as these require you to notify your local building control team, who may require structural calculations before works can be signed off.
Which areas do you cover?

We have offices throughout the country. Currently, you can employ our services from our offices in NewcastleManchesterNorthumberland and Cornwall & Devon

What are the main considerations for drainage design?

When designing a system for foul and surface water drainage, the primary considerations should be site characteristics and topography. Then, engineers will determine expected water volume and flow rates to further inform the best pipe materials and sizing requirements.

Do I need a drainage strategy for my development?

UK law requires that property owners take steps to ensure that drains are kept clear and water is prevented from draining onto neighbouring property. In addition, due to both of these factors, all major developments and some small developments will require you to produce a DS report to obtain planning permission.

Can a planning application be refused without a FRA?

Yes. Depending on the nature of the project, failure to include a satisfactory FRA could result in your local planning authority (LPA) refusing your planning application.

I need a civil engineer urgently – can you help?

Please contact us and we will see what we can do. Even whilst busy, we try to allocate time to administrative works, training, and CPD. If required, we may be able to allocate some of this time to your project.

What type of clients do you work with?

We typically work with a wide range of clients from domestic clients, builders, developers, architects and surveyors.

I have been told I need a civil engineer, but I cannot adaquately describe the issue. Can you take a look?

Often, a building inspector or other professional may use complicated terms to describe a structural defect meaning it is difficult to clearly relay that information over the phone or via email. In these cases, we would recommend that a site visit be undertaken for a small fee to review the defect and discuss the best way to resolve the issue.
