Grade II listed Refurbishment & Extension
The Home Engineers carried out the civil and structural engineering design for Pleased To Meet You in Morpeth.
Project Overview
The works at the Queens Head Hotel in Morpeth involved a full refurbishment of the existing Grade II listed building alongside the construction of two rear wing extensions.
The existing structure was in poor condition and required significant structural alterations and remedial works to enable suitable redevelopment.
The proposals adopted a heritage-led approach, ensuring the historical character of the building was respected while allowing it to be adapted for modern use.
Original features were preserved wherever possible. Following completion, the building was successfully transformed into a Pleased To Meet You restaurant and bar.

Project Challenges
The poor condition of the original Grade II listed structure presented a number of challenges.
Extensive remedial works were required to bring the building up to a safe and workable standard while preserving as much of the historic fabric as possible.
Balancing structural interventions with heritage considerations required a careful and sympathetic approach.
The Solution
We carried out the full civil and structural engineering design for the project, including new foundations, steel beams, and load-bearing masonry elements throughout.
Our designs were developed with a strong focus on minimising the impact on original features while delivering the structural stability needed for the new layout and extensions.
The Outcome
The completed scheme revitalised a historically significant building, enabling it to be repurposed as a vibrant restaurant and bar.
The heritage-led approach allowed key architectural features to be retained while providing modern facilities and safe structural performance for the future.
