Public Sculpture Alfie Bradely’s ‘I AM LOVE’
We provided structural designs to support the installation of this unique piece of artwork close to the site of the original ‘Knife Angel’ sculpture.
Project Overview
The sculpture is a unique piece of artwork that is located in a visually prominent position close to the site of the original ‘Knife Angel’ sculpture by Alfie Bradley.
The sculpture is of high quality with a powerful message and is a collaboration between ‘Keep It 100 Youth’ and Alfie Bradley. The Youth Charity, ‘Keep It 100’, was set up with the aim of improving aspirations for youngsters, and tackling youth violence through art and culture.
The sculpture is dedicated to the “education and reflection on all forms of youth violence”. The sculpture is named “I am love” and Ms Marco (the founder of ‘Keep It 100 Youth’) states “I am Love is a message of empowerment. Through this sculpture we want to inspire young people to make positive choices”.
The project was brought to life after extensive youth consultation, including understanding how young people felt about the Knife Angel, which was first unveiled in 2017.

Project Challenges
The primary challenge was creating a structural solution that could support the unique artistic form of the sculpture.
Located in a public space, the structure needed to withstand wind loads, environmental exposure, and potential public interaction, all without compromising the aesthetic qualities of the artwork.
The Solution
We developed a structural design that supported the sculpture’s form while meeting all safety and durability requirements.
Steel connection detailing ensured the structural elements could carry the imposed forces and maintain stability in a public environment.
By working closely with the artist, we ensured the engineering solutions were discreet and respectful of the creative intent.
The Outcome
The “I Am Love” sculpture now stands as both a striking piece of public art and a symbol of hope and positive change.
Through close collaboration between the artist, youth charity, and our structural team, the sculpture was safely realised and installed in a prominent setting where it will continue to inspire young people and the wider community.
