New Build Domestic Dwelling,Duloe
The Home Engineers (SW) were commissioned to undertake the structural design for a new domestic dwelling in Duloe, Cornwall.
Project Overview
We were commissioned to provide the full structural design for a new domestic dwelling in Duloe, Cornwall. Working alongside John Venning Architectural Services and B & BJ Phillips Builders, we developed structural solutions that balanced the demands of modern living with the challenges of the site.
Our scope of works included the design of the foundations, ground bearing slabs, cavity masonry walls, structural steelwork for large glazed openings, and an external balcony.
In addition, we provided retaining wall design around the property and developed a raised walkway bridge to form access to the new home.

Project Challenges
The design required integrating large areas of glazing within a cavity masonry structure, ensuring both stability and aesthetic appeal.
The inclusion of an external balcony and a raised walkway bridge introduced additional structural considerations, while the surrounding retaining walls had to be carefully designed to support the landscaped site.
The Solution
We provided a coordinated structural package that addressed all elements of the new dwelling.
Foundations and ground bearing slabs were designed to provide a robust base, while cavity masonry walls offered long-term durability.
Structural steelwork supported the large glazed openings and external balcony, ensuring the dwelling could accommodate expansive views without compromising stability.
The retaining walls and raised access walkway were engineered to integrate seamlessly with the site, delivering both function and aesthetic continuity.
The Outcome
The completed dwelling in Duloe combines modern architectural design with robust structural engineering.
Large glazed openings and a feature balcony create light-filled interiors, while the raised walkway provides a striking access point.
The structural solutions delivered ensured safety, durability, and a design aligned with the client’s vision.
