New Build Coach House Axwell Hall Redevelopment
Axwell Hall is a beautiful grade II building built in 1758.
Project Overview
Axwell Hall is a Grade II listed building built in 1758. After serving as a school until 1981, it remained derelict for decades before being redeveloped.
As part of the wider Axwell Hall redevelopment, we provided full structural design services for the construction of a new build coach house within the site.
The coach house was designed as a braced steel frame with masonry infill, providing strength and stability while complementing the heritage setting of the Hall.
The steel frame was engineered to support both the floor and roof structures, while also satisfying lateral stability requirements.

Project Challenges
The project required delivering a new build structure that sat within the grounds of a historic Grade II listed building.
This meant the structural design needed to meet modern performance standards while being sympathetic to its heritage context.
The steel frame also had to be carefully designed to provide stability and integrate with masonry infill panels.
The Solution
We developed a braced steel frame design that provided the necessary strength and lateral stability for the new coach house.
Masonry infill panels were integrated into the frame to create a robust yet contextually appropriate solution.
The frame was designed to efficiently carry roof and floor loads while ensuring long-term durability.
The Outcome
The completed coach house contributes to the wider Axwell Hall redevelopment, creating a high-quality new build structure within a historic setting.
Our structural solutions delivered the strength and stability required while respecting the architectural ambitions of the scheme.
